This is one of my earliest tunes, written in 1974 just after high school in my childhood bedroom on Maryvale Street in Mobile. I remember picking up my guitar, and then the song just happened. I had a vision of Spanish galleons, and a woman beckoning me aboard. I couldn't have asked for an easier path to a song. This was the first tune I recorded when I got a multitrack, but that tape was lost somewhere in the sands of time. This version was recorded at John & Teri Lubotsky's house in 2008 during the session celebrating Michael's 50th birthday and Pluto Jones' 30th anniversary. There's also an earlier version, recorded live by Pluto Jones in June 1980 at the Brass Monkey Lounge in Marathon in the Florida Keys. 'Come To Me' features one of my favorite lyrics. As I join the lady on the galleon she says, "Come to me...be set free...know love eternally". What an invitation! And as we say in Bama, "it just don't get no better than that!"
