Big Feat was the second of only two pieces I've assembled entirely from a sample
loop library. The initial rhythm is a beat loop recorded by Little Feat's late great
drummer Richie Hayward, who was definitely one of the most syncopated men ever
born. I just let the drum loop play and started "painting" other loops, sounds and
audio bits onto the screen until it was done. There's really no explanation for my
choice of musical elements in this piece, other than the fact that they were in my
path as I wandered through the Acid loop library. I hadn't heard this jam in many
years, but I found it in my archives in 2023 and listened to it for probably the
first time in the 21st century. And I remembered how much fun I had building this
track with one of my favorite drummers holding down the beat. I mean...not
everybody gets to jam with Richie Hayward, right? Is this track a bit on the bizarre
side? Yep it is! And why did I call it "Big Feat"? Well...if you haven't figured it out
already, look no further than the second sentence of this story for an obvious clue.
