This song and its companion Still The Same offer a glimpse into both sides of a
decaying relationship between two dear friends of mine. These songs are part
chronicle and part prediction. "Still The Same" is my interpretation of a realtime look
from the perspective of 'Friend A', and "Smilin" is a bit of speculation on what the
future might hold for 'Friend B' if things continued along on their well-trodden path.
"Smilin's Just A Thing I Used To Do" was written around 1984, and this version was
recorded by Mosaic around 1989 at one of the first digital recording studios in
Central Florida. The studio was in Gainesville, but I can't recall the location or the
name of the facility. This is one of my older tunes I'd like to revisit at some point.
